Rebel Elite on fire at Sizzle

Philly teams continue to excel in summer travel tournaments

The Rebel Elite Lacrosse Club won the High School "A" Division championship at the Summer Sizzle Tournament last weekend in BelAir, Md. After losing its 1st game against Rockfish, Rebel Elite battled back with seven consecutive victories to win the bracket, which consisted of 48 teams. Mac Lee (Episcopal Academy) and Andrew Sabia (Roman Catholic) shared duties in the goal, including during the shutout in the championship. Shawn Kaplin (Plymouth Whitemarsh/Ohio State) won 97% of his face offs during the team's run. Ben Sampson (Emmaus) scooped up 14 ground balls, and Joey Sankey(Penn Charter) had 5 of the 6 goals scored in the title game to clinch the victory. Ed Coombs (Hatboro Horsham) and Beau Gomez (Wissahickon) were key in the team's success. With victory, Rebel Elite again qualifies to attend Dick's Tournament of Champions in Tampa area this Jan.1-3. Rebel took 5th place overall last year at Dick's Tournament.
